Spirited Away: Live on Stage brings two Chihiros to cinemas in October

The filmed stage adaptation has separate US screenings on October 1 and 8, each led by a different actor playing Chihiro.

The cinema return of Spirited Away: Live on Stage is a choice between two filmed performances , not two showings of the same recording. GKIDS and Fathom Entertainment have scheduled the stage adaptation in US theatres for October 1 and October 8 as part of Studio Ghibli Fest 2026. Kanna Hashimoto plays Chihiro in the

performance scheduled for October 1. Mone Kamishiraishi takes the role in the October 8 version. Both were filmed during the production's 2022 run at Tokyo's Imperial Theatre. John Caird adapted and directed the show from Hayao Miyazaki's animated film, using sets, musical numbers and puppetry to bring its spirit-world

journey to the stage. Mari Natsuki, who voiced Yubaba and Zeniba in the film, appears in the stage cast. GKIDS says the screenings are in Japanese with English subtitles.
