Sony brings QSSR AI upscaling to standard PS5
Sony's Quick Spectral Super Resolution adds an AI upscaling option to PS5, starting with Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei patches.
Sony has announced Quick Spectral Super Resolution, or QSSR, an AI upscaling library designed for the standard PS5. It is a streamlined relative of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution on PS5 Pro, with a smaller neural network and an implementation tuned for the base console. Sony says it improves image detail and
stability; it does not claim parity with PS5 Pro's PSSR. Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei are the first games to offer QSSR as an additional graphics option through patches dated October 1. Sony says it will make the library broadly available to PlayStation developers, but has not named a wider game rollout or a
console-wide switch that automatically upgrades every title. The announcement is a notable extension of Sony's AI graphics work with AMD to existing PS5 hardware. Sony's technical announcement includes comments from Insomniac Games and Sucker Punch Productions on the first implementations. Headline image: Sony
