Viking Penguin takes on Beth Brower's self-published Emma M. Lion series

The publisher acquired US print and ebook rights to thirteen novels, with eight paperback volumes due in November and volume nine in February.

Beth Brower's independently published The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion is moving into a major US publishing programme. In its 18 September announcement, Penguin Random House said Viking Penguin acquired US print and ebook rights to thirteen novels from Georgina Capel Associates. The deal does not establish a

change to rights or schedules outside the US. The first eight volumes are scheduled as Penguin trade paperbacks on 24 November 2026. Volume nine is slated for 23 February 2027. Readers buying the new editions can therefore expect a broad initial paperback rollout followed by the next numbered volume, rather than a

single-volume trial. The publisher says the series began through Brower's Rhysdon Press in 2019 and has sold more than one million print and ebook copies in the US. Emma returns to Victorian London to claim an inheritance, recording encounters with family and the inhabitants of the fictional St. Crispian's

neighbourhood in journal entries. The acquisition is a notable step for a series that built its audience before this traditional publishing deal.
