Grand Cathay is getting its first Black Library novel. Evan Dicken’s Blood of the Bastion follows Yao Kai, a veteran soldier whose appointment as a Master of the Snake Gate places him at the centre of a conspiracy against the Great Bastion.

Grand Cathay is getting its first Black Library novel. Evan Dicken’s Blood of the Bastion follows Yao Kai, a veteran soldier whose appointment as a Master of the Snake Gate places him at the centre of a conspiracy against the Great Bastion. The threat comes from within the realm as well as from the Chaos Wastes beyond

its defences. Dicken’s account of the book emphasises family, social expectations and lost standing alongside military conflict and court intrigue. The story explores Nan-Gau and north-eastern Cathay during the Warhammer: The Old World period. Its viewpoint remains with mortal characters rather than placing one of the

setting’s powerful Dragons at the centre of the action. Black Library has announced a regular hardback and a special edition with a leather-effect cover and red page edges.
